Governor's Gold Cup: Collins Delighted With Win

USSC's Nigerian recruit Eze Collins spoke to Goal.com after the game against Simla Youngs, in which the striker scored the winning goal...

For the small club from Sikkim, the value of their victory against their much vaunted opponents, Simla Youngs, cannot be stated highly enough. The United Sikkim Sports Club made it to the pre-quarter final stage of the tournament after beating the Delhi side 2-1, thanks to a 73rd minute winner from their Nigerian recruit Eze Collins.

"It was a great victory for us, and we beat them in every department. They're a strong side with some good players, but we coped well and got the win. I'm sure we'll do well in the next match as we're improving every day." The 23-year old Nigerian plies his trade in Bhutan for Bhutan Transports, but was called to play for USSC in this tournament by India skipper Baichung Bhutia.

"Baichung is a good friend of mine, and once he gave me a call, I couldn't say no. He said the team needed a bit of experience to blend with the youth, and so I'm here". Eze was also full of praise for the organizers and the stadium, and called the atmosphere in the town of Gangtok "carnival-like", which is getting even better with each passing day.

He was a bit more modest about his goal, which was a wonderful one, and showed what he possesses as a player, pace, power, and clinical finishing. "I would like to dedicate the goal to Mr.Karma Bhutia, who is the technical director of USSC, and who has shown a lot of faith in me."

When asked to give a message to Goal.com readers, all he said was, "The Governor's Gold Cup is a big tournament, one where you'll get to see tomorrow's superstars, so keep an eye on it!"
